Bridging the Technology World and Spirituality
February 20, 2008
No doubt if you’re reading this, you’ve felt both blessed and hounded by the miracle that is information technology. There are days when I both love and hate my computer; I give thanks that I have one and am grateful for the infinite ways that it connects me to others. However, there are other days when the things it does (or doesn’t do) irk me to no end and have me pulling my hair out.
Regardless, the future will be increasingly tech-focused, which scares and delights me all at once.
I recently read a book called Inherent Quality Simplicity by Ron Richard which purports that “the inner joy within each of us must grow and flow into that which we use, create and convey. This includes software, technology and information.” The author goes on to say that “inherent within IT pros, the general public, and upcoming generations is a positive energy that can help evolve quality throughout the world.”
As I thought about this, I began imagining what kind of progress could be made globally if more IT pros, developers, etc. were spiritually minded. If more people operated from a place of love instead of fear – especially those who are affecting very visible, consumable change in our society – what would life be like?
Inherent Quality Simplicity is a rallying cry, of sorts, meant to inspire executives, professionals and all who produce, purchase and see their quality of life improved upon by software, technology and information to do just that: operate from a higher-minded place; ideally, one of love.
“The message is about peaceful transformations and all of us doing what we can to be of some service to making a better humanity by the year 2020 (so as to help evolve humanity toward continually producing greater benefits for today’s society and the generations of the future). The year 2020 is ideally a time of and for perfect vision. We can make things better from many perspectives, and in ways that are faster, safer and more entertaining. However, the movement in a positive direction has to increasingly be built on an individual foundation (of worth and joy) that extends freely to help others, and ultimately extends to such things as ending homelessness, poverty, war, corruption, costs of errors, and so on.”
Honestly, IT never sounded so good. To learn more about what I’ve come to understand as the bridging of spirituality and IT, check out the Inherent Quality web site, or VIIP.

Based on the first part of this post I have a question that I think I know the answer to… but, anyway… what type of computer do you have, and what OS are you running.
