Quote on the Roles & Games We Play (Richard Bach)

“A major rule you forgot, Roles. Every game we play, we slip into a role, a game identity with which to play. We decide we’re rescuer, victim, leader-with-all-the-answers, follower-without-a-clue, bright, brave, honorable, crafty, dull, helpless, just-trying-to-get-along, diabolical, easygoing, pitiable, earnest, careless, salt-of-the-earth, puppet master, comic, hero… we choose our role by whim and destiny, and we can change it anytime we want.”

Richard Bach, Running from Safety: An Adventure of the Spirit

Beholding Beauty: Excerpt from DailyOm and a Man’s Delightful Perspective

DailyOm “You Are Beautiful”

“Many of us do not take the time to notice and acknowledge how beautiful we are as humans. We may be great lovers of beauty, seeing it in the people, places, and things around us, while completely missing it in ourselves. Some of us feel that it is vain to consider our appearance too much, or we may find that when we look at ourselves, all we see are imperfections. Often we come to the mirror with expectations and preconceived notions about beauty that blind us from seeing ourselves clearly. As a result, we miss the beauty that is closest to us, the beauty we are. Sometimes we see our beauty in a shallow way, noticing how well we are conforming to social norms, but failing to see the deeper beauty that shines out from within and that will continue to shine regardless of how we measure up to society’s ideal.”

I’ve been holding on to this excerpt for quite awhile, because it struck me and I wanted to share it, but wasn’t sure how or when. Then I read GlamSpirit’s blog and Kristen’s post on Thursday warmed my heart. She found an essay written by Walter Kirn entitled Pieces of You. I encourage every woman to read it for how well written, touching and funny it is. (Thank you, Kristen, and thank you, Walter!)

Quote on Finding What You Want in Life

“What you are seeking is also seeking you.” James Arthur Ray, The Science of Success

When I remind myself of this, my dreams feel less separated from me (and me from them) than if I were to think, “I’m the one doing all the looking.” I fully believe that everything in life is comprised of energy, and that energies vibrating at like frequencies attract each other. Therefore, it’s less that I’m chasing my dreams and more so that my dreams and I are both looking for each other. Almost as if we’re at the same dance, just hanging out. It’s only a matter of time before we spot each other from across the room, do that familiar nod of agreement in each others’ direction, and begin tearing it up on the dance floor.

What I am seeking is also seeking me… Joy-invoking, indeed.
